About Amchilini, Choose Me
When tradition asks for a choice, who truly gets to choose?
Chadian filmmaker Allamine Kader Kora visits his mother’s village, where local leaders revive Amchilini, a long-dormant ceremony requiring unmarried women to publicly choose a husband. What begins as a response to hardship becomes a wider debate about tradition, authority and personal freedom.
As Kora moves from public gatherings into more private conversations with young women, the film reveals the distance between inherited expectations and a generation increasingly determined to make its own choices.
