Monthly European Films at Calgary Public Library
The EU Film Series brings European cinema, culture, and community together in the heart of Calgary. Each month, audiences are invited to experience a film from a different European country and enjoy a welcoming cultural evening before the screening begins.
The programme is designed to be more than a movie night. Before the film, guests may experience music, books, language, food, dance, or cultural introductions connected to the featured country.
What to Expect
Each EU Film Series evening begins with a cultural welcome before the film screening. Depending on the featured country, guests may have the opportunity to:
- Listen to music from the featured country
- Browse books in the national language
- Learn a phrase or two from the featured language
- Enjoy traditional food or cultural displays
- Experience dance or community presentations
- Meet members of Calgary’s European cultural communities
Each screening is a small cultural journey designed to be welcoming, educational, and community-oriented.
About the EU Film Series
The EU Film Series was created through a partnership between the European Cultural Society of Calgary and the Delegation of the European Union in Ottawa.
The programme began following partnership discussions in 2016 and was formally established through a Memorandum of Understanding first signed in 2017 and renewed in 2019.
With the Calgary Public Library as a valued local partner, the series continues to celebrate Europe’s cultural diversity while inviting Calgarians of all backgrounds to experience European stories, languages, histories, and perspectives through film.
